Or old. Tweaked my back this weekend. Don’t know when, exactly, but it began to hurt when I was putting away groceries yesterday afternoon.

Kinja'd!!!

Pic related. How my back feels.

I’ve spent the past 30 hours under the influence of pain, pain medication, and the stinging rage that comes from the realization of your own mortality.

I hear ya.

In an effort to help get unfat, I’ve been recruited for a non-competetive coed hockey team. I have a feeling my body will remind me I’m old every time I play!

Sumo deadlifts will fix your back pain. Start with 315 lbs. The lightest anyone is allowed to sumo deadlift is 315 lbs.

Every day my knees remind me that i’m getting fatter and older. When I walk up the stairs with my daughter or my son in my arms, that top step seems so, so far away.

Weigh probably 15 over at 6 feet and 185 ... stiff sometimes yet can leap (small) buildings at a single bound on good days ... 5 or 6 of them a year.

I hurt my back a few years ago shoveling heavy wet snow. Not sure exactly what I did, but let’s just say I have moved like a teenage since. I was 22-23 when it happend, in 26 now.

Ice is the worst surface to fall on period. I’ve experienced old rough pavement that is more forgiving than ice.~a skateboarder who is bad at ice skating

I’m not even old, but definitely fat... not long after I got my Miata, I drove it kinda aggressively, and the shitty leather seats were like a slip and slide. Combine that with no actual back support (NB1 seats are torture devices, really), and I actually managed to throw my back out simply by staying upright in the seat.

Next morning, I literally could not walk unless I supported my weight almost entirely on my arms. Yeah, I put NA Miata cloth seats in once I could walk again.

Going to call my primary care doc in a few when his office opens. He and his nurse practitioner are excellent and I can’t say enough good about them.

At 38/6'3"/340 lbs I’m as big as I’ve ever been. I’m dieting and have exercises that I can do but it’s hard to get moving when you’re already in pain.

I have scoliosis, so unfortunately I’m extremely familiar with your pain.

Best thing I could suggest is yoga. Your range of motion wont be very far for a while, but Rome wasn’t built in a day, so don’t expect immediate results.

I’ve found that a much softer bed has done more than a hard/stiff bed, you may want to stop by a mattress store or Ikea and just give it a shot for a few minutes. I used to have a lot of trouble falling asleep, now it’s just a few minutes and I’m totally out. I plan on getting a Casper mattress in a month or so as well, and seeing how good those are.

Best I can say is that stretching and yoga will do a lot more than you give it credit for initially. I end up getting home from work totally exhausted and I just want to lay on the couch or something, but if you can get into it regularly, just look up the best workout for a bad back, and do your best to make it a routine. Could be once or twice a week to get your started, it doesn’t need to be a daily thing until you’re feeling up to it.

Back when I was more involved in the cycling newsgroups, there was a fellow about your size asking for advice about getting a bike. Helpful people gave good advice and he started riding. Over the next couple of years, he kept updating the group on his progress. If I remember right, he dropped over 100 lbs and became an enthusiastic cyclist in the process. It was inspiring.

Also, if your iPhone runs out of juice, you can recharge it by putting it in the microwave for 60 seconds!

My wife keeps saying she wants to do yoga in the mornings but it’s difficult without a partner to do these things. We even have a basic 15-minute routine queued up in our Youtube app on our FireStick but we haven’t started doing it.

I know the feeling, but the benefits will go far beyond the pain relief once you can get into the swing of things.

I’ve been in pain since 03, and yoga is probably the only thing I’ve not tried. IDK why I never thought of it. I’ll give it a shot, and then forget to ever mention the results. Thanks!
